CropMix

Context

Developed with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and WAVE (Côte d’Ivoire).

Problem

Designing varietal mixtures that reduce disease susceptibility while preserving yield requires robust optimization adapted to field conditions.

Solution

CropMix combines:

• epidemiological models with combinatorial optimization;
• an interface to test mixtures, simulate epidemics and compare performance;
• exportable recommendations for breeders and field teams.

Technologies

• Python, Streamlit;
• Optimization modules (scipy.optimize, heuristics), epidemiological modelling;
• Interactive visualization for scenario comparison.

Impact

• Scientific publications;
• Implementation of recommendations in trial sites.
